The Casino Health Impact Assessment relies on community input to help prioritize which health determinants to look at. Community meetings and workshops, interviews, surveys, and feedback from the Advisory Committee, help identify those priorities. Two primary ways the general public has been involved is through community forums and survey.
Participants identified ways that a casino might impact health in their communities, and then individually each participant scored which impacts were most important to them. View the top five health impact priorities. These priorities will help to define the health impact pathways that the HIA considers.
The Casino Health Impact Assessment used Survey Monkey to distribute a survey to organizations and citizens in Springfield, West Springfield, and Palmer to understand the impacts they felt a casino would have and to rank the ones they thought were most important to assess through the Casino HIA. View the top five impacts from that survey, which also help to define the health impact pathways that the Casino HIA considers.
