Shared Language

Francheska Bermudez is the 413Cares Program Manager at the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts.

"When it comes to advancing racial justice, shared language is so important not just as the initial starting place for understanding, but as a constant, grounding guide to continue educating ourselves and others of why the work we do matters. So many of the problems we try to tackle in our region boil down to the different "isms" that have historically affected people like me, and I would like to be seated at tables where these conversations have not been had enough, like in Hispanic households. It is why I have "Our Shared Language: Social Justice Glossary" by YWCA bookmarked."
